Establishing Goals for the Internet Marketing Strategy

Having a clear well defined goal for the web is the first step in the project.  It should be something tangible and finite so it can be measured and acknowledged when it has been reached.  It will also focus the website design process so the graphic designer and copywriter have a compass to guide them toward a result that accomplishes something for the company.

I have a client who engaged a website design firm that did not do this very important step.  The end result was she wound up with a website that had a goal something like “a beautiful website” but didn’t help her get any more business.  It was designed very impressively with a lot of flashy components.  Unfortunately the website was very search engine un-friendly and the website couldn’t be gotten to show up in search engine results for her business.  It was a $10K plus mistake!

Coming up with the Internet Strategy
